The last two weeks haven’t been that exciting at all mainly as like most people I am broke. The joys of being paid monthly and having a shopping addiction, this year I will save, I think I will be writing this every week to just remind myself the importance of saving how next January will not be like this and I have already started. I have been doing the 52 week saving challenge so week one I put €1 into a savings box week 2 €2, week 3 €3 and on week 52 well that’s if I last that long it will be €52, I know it will kill me doing this every week but I think that might be the handbag fund or even a holiday fund, something fun that will make me do this every year.
I have also been doing the 52 week book challenge so one book a week for the year, I love reading but last year I didn’t read as much as I would of liked so this year its’s going to change,
Week One Cross the Line by James Patterson
This book is from the Alex Cross serous. The book begins with a murder on a quiet road of course this is just the beginning, than District Chief of Detectives and his girlfriend are murdered in the middle of the day, Alex Cross is on the case. The book takes a few turns but it just wasn’t that great I normally love James Patterson books but I was abit bored halfway into it. It all came together a bit too nicely like the ending was rushed and just abit boring.
Week Two Night School by Lee Child
This book is from another serious the Jack Reacher books. I love Jack Reacher serious and hate the films who ever decided to cast Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher needs there head checked and also needs to read the books. This book takes you back 20 years ago and is set in the mid-90s when Reacher is still in the army he has been sent back to school but of course that is only what they want the outside world to think in fact he is on a joint mission with FBI, CIA and the national Security Council to stop a terrorist attack .This book again was not up to Childs normal standard it was good but I could put it down and to me that’s the most important thing about a book.
Week three Edge by Jeffery Deaver
This is an old book which I picked up in the local charity shop for €3, you really can’t go wrong. The main character is this book is an agent called Corte who works in a secret organisation that protects people who have deadly secrets, some of these people are not even aware of the knowledge they know. Henry Loving is the bad guy of this book and the person after the knowledge and someone you do not want questioning you. This book is a cat and mouse game between the pair. There are some surprising turns in this book but at times it is abit to detailed.
Last week I decided to use a voucher I got for Christmas to buy myself a new watch, I knew what I wanted before I went into the shop but the watch I wanted did not suit me at all, it was to chunky for my arm. I than spotted the Rosefield watch in rose gold with a black strap and I can also change straps which is always handy. The watch is €89 and a new strap is €35 which isn’t too bad I already have my eye on the grey leather strap.
I also had another voucher that I won on Facebook for my favourite burger place, Bobo’s burgers. It’s one of the nicest places to get a decent burger in Dublin everything is made fresh and the staff are all so friendly, its always busy which is a good sign. It’s not like most fast food places as you are shown to your seat and handed a menu and they take your order there is no queuing which I love.
Lots of Love
I read a lot of books a little chic lit but mainly thrillers and murders I read about two to three books a week so some of the books are from charity shops and some I pick up while in Tesco’s I keep meaning to put up more book reviews but I always forget so here are the last four books read.
Going start with the chic-lit The Starter Wife by Gigi Levangie Grazer I got this for about euro in the charity shop so Gracie’s husband Kenny who is a semi famous Hollywood studio executive dumps her by cell phone a few months before there ten year anniversary Gracie never thought she would be a starter wife but Kenny has up-graded to a young pop star Gracie than moves to Malibu and surprise surprise meets a mysterious man who saves her from drowning and she also goes on a date with Kenny’s boss ok trying to not give too much away about this book. I did like this book but I didn’t love it I didn’t really love any of the characters I felt like Gracie got over Kenny very fast and the fact that she had a child with him and he kind of made her homeless really isn’t nice and Hollywood sounds like horrible place where no one’s face moves because they all have Botox and facelifts now one thing about this book it made me ask myself a question about myself I can’t really tell you the question because it gives the book away but I don’t think I could? I would give this book 6/10
Another chic lit I don’t think I Purchased this book not really sure where it came from it’s the devil wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger I think everyone knows the film which I would of liked a lot more if Anne Hathaway wasn’t in it I just didn’t like her for the part. I liked this book a lot more than the film just in case you haven’t seen the film or heard of it, it’s about Andrea who gets a job as the assistant of Miranda Priestley the feared editor of the most fashionable magazine in the world Runway but Andrea doesn’t know anything about fashion she has never heard of Runway and Miranda who is an evil boss who would give Cruella de Vil a run for her money but I know what it’s like to work for a mad person as I have done for many years and I know what it’s like trying to be a mind reader and being terrified of going into her office but I didn’t understand her boyfriend and best friend issue with her not being able to take calls and asking her to be available for call at 3.30 its stupid I am sorry but you can’t take personal calls when in work some of the stuff I did laugh out loud at and I could relate a lot to some of it believe me. I would give this book an 8/10
This is a thriller Grave Doubts by Elizabeth Corley there is a serious of these but I have only read this one and to me you could pick it up straight away, Sergeant Louise Nightingale acts as a decoy to lure a sexual predator out of hiding but he is only the pupil and his master is still out there but Louise or the police force do not know this Louise has been traumatized by this and also has a family tragedy to deal with so Louise decides to take leave and go to her remote family home but than a serial killer starts terrorizing the country but Louise is cut off from the outside world she has turned off her phone, no internet or T.V and her colleague DCI Andrew Fenwick needs to find her and also prove that the right man is behind bars and that he has a partner I really really liked this book when reading these type of books I always ask myself if I was kidnapped or murdered weather I would be happy with this police officer and his investigation and yes if anything thing happens to me I want DCI Andrew Fenwick on the case lol. I would give this book 10/10 I couldn’t put it down.
Bones of the Lost by Kathy Reichs I picked this up in Tesco’s last week I love bones on TV and I read one of her earlier books before and enjoyed it ok first of all this is nothing like Bones. Dr Temperance Brennan is nothing like the TV character and her daughter is all grown up and she is divorced WTF. So a teenage girl’s body is found on a highway and inside her purse is an ID card of a local businessman who died in a fire a few months ago but who is this girl and where she has some from this book extends from South America to Afghanistan. Ah this book it was bad it was so unbelievable its shocking everything added up to nicely at the end to the point that it was just really unbelievable and it kind of didn’t make sense ok I will try and explain this Dr Brennan goes to Afghanistan about a different matter while there a special needs girl slips something in her pocket ok this girl didn’t know who she was but just happened to out of all the hundreds of people there give it to the right person it just doesn’t add up to me. I give this book 3/10.
Lots of Love
Beauty by Louise (Bagshawe) Mensch.
This book is an easy holiday read the main character is Dina Kane who has came from nothing and worked hard to become a success even when her own mother is against her and she has also made enemies and is not scared to get revenge on them which I loved.
This book was hard to put down there was so much scandal, ambition, power, love and beauty in this book I loved it really don’t want to give to much away but it’s a must holiday read.
The Perfect Retreat by Kate Foster
this book is a perfect holiday read it’s funny and romantic a nice light read perfect for the beach.
The book is about an actress called Willow her life is falling apart her soon to be ex husband has spent all there money and hasn’t seen there three children in months Willow and the kids need to escape London from the papanazis as the kids call them the children’s nanny Kitty also my favourite character in the book suggests they stay at her family home Middlemist Manor her crumbling ancestral home that nobody has lived in since her father passed away three years ago the house now belongs to Kitty and her older brother Merritt who just happens to decide to head home the same night as Kitty.
I really don’t want to give to much away but I really liked this book it’s sweet story this book is €4.95 or three books for €10 in Tesco’s.
I love getting good chick lit book for my holiday and Some girls do by Clodagh Murphy is perfect.
The main character is Clare Kennedy a sweet nice girl who you can’t help but like who has a secret she is steamy sexy online blogger and of course it’s all lies and of course she gets offered a book deal and her publisher just happens to be sex on legs Mark Bell this is when Claire decides to HIRE sexy Luca who just happens to be a commitment phoebe to help her with her sex skills and of course things get very complicated and very funny.
This booked made me laugh out aloud and even cry I loved it a real bonk buster a brilliant holiday read I could not put this book down and read it in 2days
I love a good thriller but I decided to try a chick lit book and this looked good and its written by an Irish author so I decided to give it a try if I love a book I finish it in two days and I can’t put it down this book took me week to read.
The main character is a woman called Romy Fitzgerald and I have to say I didn’t really like her she was boring and needed to learn to communicate better it’s really not that hard she has a one night stand at a fancy dress party with darth Vader and surprise surprise she ends up pregnant and calls the perfect baby Luke as she doesn’t know who the father really is, Luke never really crys and doesn’t seem to need to eat that often and with in 3months Romy body is back to perfection and she doesn’t mind walking around half naked in front of her ex boyfriend I know I know it’s fiction but I like a story to be a bit believable.
There was no real surprises in the book you could tell straight away whats going to happen I like a book that keeps me guessing don’t get me wrong there was a few funny moments but there needed to be more her best friend Lesley was the most funny charter and I wanted to hear more about her internet dating and less about her neighbours sex life zzzzz.
I would give this book 3 out of 10
